I am especially enamored of those things that I cannot do myself. I could not do haiku book reviews, although I love the idea. But I cannot even write a short comment.
Malcolm Gladwell is a fascinating, thought-provoking writer. As for “Blink,” it became so hot on Wall Street that he was asked to address convocations of bankers and investors there. According to a recent NPR report, many embraced these ideas and implemented them in their investment practices. The quick, instinctive decision. Now poor Malcolm is bearing part of the blame in some circles for the financial meltdown that began in 2008.
All I am saying is that perhaps it would be best to limit the application of his wisdom to those areas of life other than managing your investment portfolio. Of course you could always take my approach and dispense with investment portfolios entirely.
Wow, very interesting! I was not aware of that twist in the story. What I enjoyed was reading the studies and anecdotes that he uses to support his thesis. I would think that using book as a manual without a more comprehensive understanding of the subject could lead to problems and idiotic consequences. Like eugenicist and Social Darwinists misinterpreting and misapplying the ideas in the Origins of the Species. Though comparing Gladwell to Darwin may be giving Gladwell a bit to much credit…
Yes, we both agree that he may be on to something. He is a convincing writer, and the anecdote simply illustrates how convincing he can be. I would like to hear him comment on that whole Wall Street thing now.
Thanks for the blog complements. I know the haiku thing is a bit gimmicky, but so far it’s been a fun exercise in restraint, and there are so many other excellent book blogs out there, that I didn’t really feel like trying to compete.

This was a great book and especially good for starting lively conversations with friends/family!
